For the most part, these things do not apply to everyone. There are a ton of really cool, really talented people I’ve met off Deviantart whom I hope to stay in touch with and will continue to follow their artistic journeys. I will still browse and what not, but I’ve been thinking this over for a long time and I think I’m just ready to move on.

In a simple list form:

- I do not like the direction it’s going in.

- People are extremely rude and have no real input half the time.

- It’s turned into a big popularity contest.

- It’s completely saturated with horrible photography, drawing, design, etc…

- I really, really, really .. do no like Manga / Anime (with few few exceptions of stuff that’s done awesomely). I especially don’t like it when it’s that weird fetish stuff.

- Every second picture I see is some girl/guy taking a picture of their ass, or their crotch, or whatever and calling it ‘art’. Junking up servers, taking up space, slowthing things down and making it harder to find something worth looking at.

- Half the daily deviations don’t deserve to be Daily Deviations. I remember back in the day when it was one a day. And you KNEW it was going to be something awesome.

- I’ve been wasting money every year for a premium membership and I have no idea why.

- From what I’ve been told, Deviantart can take your images at any time and use them for whatever they want. (Correct me if I’m wrong please!)

- I don’t want to see porn, I don’t want to see dead people, I don’t want to see your ass, or your ugly face. I want to see art. There’s a fine line between taking a photo of somebody who’s considered ‘ugly’ and finding something beautiful in them VS. Taking a photo of your ugly mug in a ‘myspace-mirror’ shot.

I’m sure I’ve repeated myself, and if I think of anything else, I’ll probably add it. Feel free to argue / agree with me.

Here’s another reason. There was this horrible photo of a man and a woman on the ground. The man’s stomach had been opened and all his insides were strewn everywhere and the woman was crying in desperation. The comment on the photo was highly inappropriate and the photo wasn’t even the artists own work. I’m going to assume it was from the Haiti earthquake.

I reported it on DA and said how horrible it was (Pretty much everyone else on the page was saying the same thing) and how inappropriate and disgusting this person was and you could blatantly see why I said this if you looked at the photo at all. And this is the message they sent me :

Your Permission Issues Violation Report on Happy Valentine’s Day was reviewed by a member of the staff and action was taken, marking the report as Need Information.

Additionally, the following comment was provided:
